Code for Sustainable Homes
It is now mandatory for all new homes to be rated against the code for sustainable homes. The code is a national standard for sustainable homes. The code is a national standard for sustainable design and construction. By following the code we aim to reduce our carbon emissions and create designs with high standards of sustainability.
The code sets sustainable design standards above the current minimum standards set out by building regulations.

It measures the buildings performance in 9 key areas:
• Energy and CO2 emissions
• Water
• Materials
• Surface water run-off (flood prevention)
• Waste
• Pollution
• Health and well-being
• Management
• Ecology
The benefits of the code for sustainable homes include:
• Reduced greenhouse gas emissions
• Better adaptation to climate change
• Reduced environmental impact
• Lower running costs
• Improved comfort and satisfaction
