ALO a local firm of young Nottingham architects has been invited to present its latest ‘green roof’ eco housing development at the prestigious 17th Annual Passive House Conference in Frankfurt, Germany between 17th-21st April. From the foundations to the roof, sustainable building is the future technology for new builds and renovations and ALO has firmly set its sights on becoming a leader in this area of design and construction. The conference brings together experts in the field to share their experience and knowledge.

The future is all about comfortable, energy efficient buildings which ensure excellent heat retention and controlled ventilation utilising renewable sources. Draughty, energy thirsty houses with crippling bills can be a thing of the past with modern passive techniques.  Buildings with green roofs and passive construction utilise a range of techniques to reduce the requirement for excess heating and cooling making a more hospitable environment and saving on bills, which is especially needed in larger cities in the UK.

The latest house concept designed by ALO has all of the modern features associated with eco friendly builds including  ‘extensive green roofs’ created from a variety of alpine sedum plants to further help the insulation of the building and control of rainwater. This groundbreaking design was especially commissioned by a group of self build enthusiasts who worked closely with ALO to come up with the design.  Mark Jennings, Chair of the self build group in Nottingham commented

ALO Architects is run by a group of ex Nottingham Trent University Architecture students who formed a design consultancy in 2020.
